Deckinga Photography

The new year is often a time for people to assess what they are doing and resolve to make changes. Of course, most of these resolutions get forgotten and/or broken by mid January so I’m not going to make a resolution. I’m going to make a change. I have been doing photography professionally (part time) for several years now, but I have never gone out soliciting clients – relying (successfully) upon referrals and word of mouth to get clients. The result of that has been some great events and a lot of fun with families that I already knew. But it is time for me to expand my circle of friends and clients to those that I haven’t met yet. If you would like to be involved in this, I would love to meet you and have you as a client!

Over the past month, a lot of new things have been happening with Deckinga Photography. We have of course had the high school senior season start in full swing and have gotten a couple of great sessions in the books already. We have been working with Way Off Broadway Community Players and the upcoming Christmas play. I encourage you to attend this one – it promises a great night of entertainment. Winter sports have started and you can find us covering the Rouse girls basketball home games for the local papers. And finally, I have just been approved to help with Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. A national remembrance photography organization that provides free portraiture to grieving families. You won’t see me posting much about those sessions, but the organization is a great charity and I would appreciate any support you could send their way.

Ladies! Well, okay. I guess this opportunity is open for gentlemen as well. I’m equal opportunity. I have a friend who is a makeup artist and hair stylist and is looking to expand her portfolio so we have teamed up to offer some free photos for those who agree to be our guinea pigs! You will get your makeup and hair done, followed by a portrait session. All of this at no cost to you. Pictures of the session will be available to share on the web or buy prints as you wish.

We are looking for people interested in headshots, semi-formal portraits, glamor, maternity or other things that will show off a look somewhat more elegant than typical daily situations demonstrate. No, that isn’t my agenda for the summer. It is the current play being performed at Way Off Broadway Community Players, and I was fortunate enough to take pictures of it for the Leander Ledger on the night of dress rehearsal. I liked it so much that I went back the next night (opening night) and laughed all over again. It was an amazing performance and I very much enjoyed myself. If you are in the area, I certainly suggest a visit.

I have used Groupon in the past and it can be a great way to try out new businesses and sometimes just get a great deal on a place that you know you already like. Well, sometimes these deal chances don’t work out. It seems that a situation like this happened with Picture People and their offering on Groupon recently… as Picture People closed their local stores. I have a problem with businesses that do things like that on all sides, and in this case there is something that I can do about it. No, I can’t cover the groupon exactly, but if you were one of the unlucky ones who purchased a this groupon I will help you out a bit. I will be following the Cedar Park boys soccer team to Nelson Field tonight and will be shooting it for the community papers. Good luck tonight and let’s have fun.  Feel free to holler at me if you have any photo requests – I’ll be the guy on the field with the “Game Night Photos” shirt.

I don’t usually care for sxsw, but I decided to try some mass transit during that week. Well it is probably the worst time to try that. Just don’t. Of course, it did let me find a few things that I otherwise would not have seen. How is this for an advertisement and a world record try? No, I didn’t make it…

The look and feel update process is mostly completed now! There are a few more finishing touches that will take place over the next few days, but the basic work to update the site is complete. I hope this makes it easier to navigate and provides the information you are interested in!
